CRi Announces 2026 Volunteer of the Year Awardee, Steampunk
April 20, 2026
CRi is pleased to award Steampunk the 2026 Volunteer of the Year Award, in recognition of its ongoing commitment over the last several years. Steampunk has participated in a range of volunteer projects over the years, including home beautification and property maintenance for their Intern Days of Service.
Steampunk has also been a prior supporter and sponsor for our Summerfest (now Community Fest) and other events. In conjunction with our Intern Service Day, Steampunk’s Citizen Service & Defense Portfolio chose CRi as their Q3 Empower Your Community Charitable Donation.
As a part of their Women’s Group, Steampunk also jumped in to help one of our young moms from our Living Independently for Tomorrow (LIFT) Program. Steampunk Women, rallied and donated clothing, bottles, a baby carrier, and more for our new mom and baby. More recently, Steampunk Women, led by Kristin Recco, assembled gift bags for our nursing staff as a part their International Women’s Day celebration, which will be given to our nurses for International Nurses Week this May.
In 2023, a CRi Board member introduced CRi to Steampunk, a technology consulting and IT services company based out of McLean. Since then, Steampunk has been a huge support in CRi’s mission through volunteer projects, sponsorships, and in-kind donations. Last year, CRi recognized an individual volunteer for our Volunteer of the Year Award. This year, we are acknowledging a special group for their dedication and continued support of CRi and the individuals we serve.
To be eligible for the Volunteer of the Year Award, a volunteer group or individual must best exemplify initiative and leadership, dependability, continuous engagement and involvement, and a deep respect for CRi’s mission and the individuals that it serves. A Volunteer of the Year goes the extra mile and has made a significant difference in CRi’s Community, volunteering for two or more events, initiatives, or programs per year. CRi established the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2025.
CRi’s Volunteer Program provides a variety of meaningful opportunities for individuals and groups to donate time toward its mission. CRi volunteers take on projects at any of our programs throughout Northern Virginia, Richmond, and Maryland ranging from home beautification to property maintenance. Volunteers can also work directly with the individuals CRi supports on an ongoing basis, doing activities such as arts and crafts or playing a game.
