LIFT Program

CRi’s LIFT (Living Independently for Tomorrow) Program is designed to help foster care youth transition from residential care to independent living. Individuals within LIFT receive housing, vocational and education services, life skills coaching, and therapeutic services as well as assistance in integrating within their community.

About LIFT (Living Independently for Tomorrow)

To quality for LIFT, an individual must be between the ages of 17 and 21. LIFT provides transitional housing to youth and young adults who are aging/have aged out of the foster care system. Individuals within the program receive the support necessary to become self-reliant adults.

In exchange for housing in neighborhood apartments, participants in the LIFT program are responsible for at least 40 hours of “weekly productivity” through school attendance and/or employment.

Each individual is assigned a case worker to assist with goal implementation, skill building exercises, and to help find therapists/counselors. With the help of their assigned caseworker, young individuals make goals, complete skill-building assignments, and learn real-life tasks by contributing a pro-rated monthly rent payment.

Over the course of 18 to 24 months, young adults are encouraged and learn how to access the natural supports their community has to offer. CRi’s LIFT Program aims to help the next generation become independent and prepares them to live fulfilling lives as contributing members of their community.

The LIFT Program is licensed for 25 beds.

Joshua's Story

Joshua was homeless and trying to complete high school when he was referred to the LIFT program. He was having difficulty concentrating in class and his attitude and attendance suffered.

After entering LIFT, Joshua’s school reported a marked improvement in attendance, attention span, attitude, and grades. Joshua even secured a part-time job. His school counselor credited LIFT’s stable housing, counseling, and other supportive services for Joshua’s marked improvements.

LIFT fostered Joshua’s confidence and determination. After LIFT graduation, Joshua transitioned into permanent housing and connected with a supportive community. He has since earned his Associate's Degree and continues to maintain his own housing while living a fulfilling life.

Testimony

“I would not be able to hold down a job for almost three years if it were not for LIFT. I am 22 years-old now and I work full-time at Georgetown Hospital. I’ve received three pay raises since I’ve been here and I have another one coming up. I have my own desk and I feel proud about my accomplishments. I would absolutely recommend the program to others.” – LIFT Graduate
