A Look at CRi's MLK Day and Volunteer Opportunities

Honoring Dr. King's Legacy

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a time for reflection, service, and community, and this year, CRi was honored to participate in several events that embodied Dr. King’s legacy. We believe in the power of community and the importance of giving back, and these events provided wonderful opportunities for just that.

Celebrating with Our Community

One heartwarming example was our partnership with Volunteer Arlington's Day of Service. Volunteers crafted beautiful, hand-made valentines that we'll be distributing to the individuals we support on Valentine's Day. This simple act of kindness brings so much joy, and we're grateful to everyone who took part. We were also delighted to receive valentines made by the 8th-grade Civics students at Thoreau Middle School, further demonstrating how community involvement can span generations.

Volunteer Fairfax also hosted their annual Give Together Event in honor of MLK Day. Dozens of families came together to create nearly 150 "I Spy Bottles" for the individuals CRi supports. These aren't just fun and engaging activities; they also provide valuable fine motor skill practice, visual, tactile, and auditory stimulation, and more. It's amazing to see how a simple activity can have such a positive impact.

Volunteer Opportunities and Current Needs

These events highlight the incredible spirit of volunteerism and community engagement. As we move closer to warmer weather, CRi will have even more volunteer opportunities available. Whether you have a few hours to spare or are looking for a longer-term commitment, we welcome your support!

If you're interested in volunteering with CRi, we encourage you to click here and complete our online volunteer application. We're always looking for passionate individuals who want to make a difference.

Currently, we have some specific needs that our community can help us fulfill:

Clothing: We are in need of new, unused clothing in a variety of sizes, particularly shirts in Large/XL/XXL for both men and women.
Hygiene Products: Essential hygiene products are always appreciated, including toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, soap, and feminine hygiene products.
Activities: Donations of small, easy puzzles, fidgets, sensory items, coloring books, markers, colored pencils, and wood blocks can help enrich the lives of the individuals we support.

CRi now has an Amazon Wish List! Please see what our current needs are here.

Your generosity, whether through volunteering your time or donating needed items, makes a real difference in the lives of those we serve. We are deeply grateful for the support of our community and look forward to partnering with you to create even more opportunities for positive change.
