Employee Spotlight on Jarrett Alston: Compassion in Action
CRi is thrilled to honor Jarrett Alston with the CECA Award, recognizing his exceptional service and unwavering advocacy within our community. We are incredibly proud to have him as part of our team.

At CRi, our team is dedicated to making a difference for families in their local communities, and Jarrett Alston embodies this mission in every way. Jarrett's passion for this work started years ago. Growing up, one of his closest friends had Down Syndrome. "I never treated them any differently, and we're still friends after 40 years," he shared. That early friendship inspired him to volunteer in high school, creating the path for a lifelong career dedicated to supporting individuals with diverse abilities.
Making a Difference, One Person at a Time
Throughout his time at CRi, Jarrett has made a lasting impact, one person at a time. One inspiring experience was with a particular individual named Dolly. "You never know who you will meet every day." Jarrett created a bond and friendship with Dolly that led to him being her encouragement and the support she needed to simplify her space. Through Jarrett, Dolly found motivation to take control of her environment–setting a goal together to declutter one bag per month. "Within the last year, she asked for help to fully clean her room. That was a proud moment."
Beyond his daily work, Jarrett is committed to providing experiences that help individuals engage with their communities. Whether that involves walking 4 to 5 miles through the neighborhood, attending local events, or taking two ladies swimming–an activity they love–Jarrett finds a way to ensure that everyone feels included.
"I love taking people out and being more than just their caregiver. I want to be their true friend.” That mindset has extended beyond CRi's programs and into everyday interactions. One moment that stands out the most was a visit to Whole Foods, where a stranger asked, "What's wrong with him?" instead of expressing frustration, Jarrett cleverly responded, "What is wrong with who? He looks happy!" Jarrett then introduced the individual, which then sparked a conversation that changed the way the stranger saw those with disabilities.
"People need to understand–someone may look, walk, or communicate differently, but they are no different than anyone else. When I share the good things about the people I work with, you can actually see people's perspective shift."
As he continues his journey with CRi, Jarrett hopes to expand these opportunities. "There are so many ways to get involved–whether it's going on walks, finding local activities, or simply creating space for inclusion. It's about making sure everyone feels valued and seen.”
Jarrett credits his incredible team for inspiring them every day, describing them as "go-getters" who push the mission first.
