Last week, CRi invited Delegate Betsy Carr to visit a recently opened & relocated program in the Richmond area, the Nicolet Home. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss options & to educate legislators of the work that CRi does in the community & to advocate for increased funding & increases in Medicaid reimbursements in 2020.
CRi invited Delegate Betsy Carr to visit CRi’s newest Richmond program, the Nicolet Home, to educate about the importance of legislative support and advocacy for community programs. CRi was excited to discuss opportunities and options for increased funding and Medicaid reimbursements. A personal visit is often the most effective means of communicating with a legislator and working toward social change.
In attendance were individuals who reside in the home, their families, and CRi staff. Together, they held a conversation on how to best recruit and retain qualified and skilled staff amidst a staffing crisis in the state of Virginia. Discussions like these are a necessary part of how CRi provides top-notch care to residents.
Betsy Carr was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2009, representing parts of the City of Richmond & the County of Chesterfield on both sides of the James River. In the House of Delegates, she serves on the Appropriations, Transportation, General Laws, and Rules Committees. She also serves on the Joint Legislative Audit & Review Commission, the Commission on Employee Retirement Security and Pension Reform, the Joint Commission on Administrative Rules, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Commission, and the Virginia Housing Commission. Delegate Carr is Treasurer of the House Democratic Caucus.
Previously, she worked as supervisor of statewide programs at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, community relations and resource development chairperson at the University of Richmond’s Women’s Resource Center, and as a Development Associate at the Virginia Historical Society. While active in the Junior League, she chaired the training committee.
