CRi Wins Contract Award!

Community Residences, Inc. Announces Contract Award - Funding Will Greatly Impact Housing Opportunities for Local Individuals with Disabilities

Chantilly, Va. – August 16, 2018 – On July 23, 2018, Community Residences, Inc.’s (CR) President/CEO, Arthur Ginsberg, announced that CR has been awarded two contracts from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), totaling $2,812,688.

The awards are in response to two Requests for Proposal issued by DBHDS in March and funds will be used to serve individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disability currently residing in state-run facilities and mental health hospitals. Dr. Hughes Melton, DBHDS Commissioner, said “DBHDS is looking forward to this partnership with Community Residences and the other awardees. Developing additional housing capacity for individuals with disabilities who experience challenges is critical to successful community inclusion for all.”

The first award of $2,021,014 will be used to purchase three homes and provide start-up funding for necessary construction and upgrades to the residences. These homes will provide supportive living for individuals with complex behavioral needs, as well as medical support for individuals transitioning from inside Virginia’s state-run mental health facilities and programs. Additionally, the Commonwealth of Virginia is looking to CR to increase ongoing capacity in the community to serve other individuals who may require similar services in the future.

The second award of $791,674 will be used to purchase one home for individuals with significant behavioral needs and medical support currently residing outside Virginia, generally young adults who have aged out of current program placement. The award also provides start-up funding toward another six-person home in the local community.

Since its inception in 1975, CR has embraced the philosophies of community integration and personalized supports that promote independence, choice, and well-being. The proceeds from these awards will go directly to the individuals served by CR. This further serves as another example of CR’s community-based philosophy for individuals with disabilities.

Community Residences, Inc. (CR) offers individuals with disabilities supportive housing and the physical, mental and emotional supports needed to facilitate independent and dignified living within the community. CR accomplishes this mission by providing a full spectrum of supports, both in CR’s homes and apartments and through community programming. Last year alone, CR supported over 1,000 youth-at-risk, women and men with mental health needs and/or intellectual disabilities, and those who are or might become homeless. Incorporated in Arlington as a 501(c)(3) organization in 1975, today CR provides supports in communities throughout Northern Virginia, Greater Richmond, and in Anne Arundel County, Montgomery County, and Baltimore, Maryland.
